Ladislao Reti (1971, p 190) states: ‘... However, Leonardo’s interest in printing antedates 1495 by many years. One sketch, (358 recto b of Cod. Atl.) datable around 1480, which thus pertains to the first Florentine period of the master shows a number of ingenious improvements (Figs. 23, 24).’
