Appendices The collection seemed to require a number of sub-sets. Appendix 1: Illustrations in ‘Orbis Sensualium Pictus’ by Amos Comenius Kurt Pilz states in the 1967 bibliography that 245 editions of the ‘Orbis Sensualium Pictus’ were published. Fifty-five editions appeared before 1701. This Appendix shows eight different illustrations of a printing press used in twenty-five editions. Appendix 2: Illustrations ‘De Boekdrukker’ by Jan and Caspar Luyken There are at least 21 different editions printed between 1694 and 1800 that include this illustration. I’ve listed the illustrations and a bibliography showing the editions in which this illustration are used. Appendix 3: Illustrations in ‘Het masker van de wereldt afgetrocken’ by Adriaen Poirters This book appeared first in 1646 as an extended version of ‘Ydelheydt des Wereldts’ (Antwerpen, 1644). Appendix 4: Illustrations in ‘Iconologia’ by Cesare Ripa This book was first published in 1593. The first editions in which a an illustration of a printing press appeared was in 1618. A preliminary bibliography until 1800 lists 42 editions (May 2021), in which 7 different illustrations are used. Appendix 5: Illustrations in ‘Idea de vn principe politico christiano’ by Diego Saavedra Fajardo The appendix contains is a chronological list of illustrations of a common press that appeared in 44 editions of Idea de vn principe politico christiano, rapresentada en cien empresas.
